I am running to make Arlington County affordable, not cheap, but affordable. I have seen too many friends leave the area or put off having children because of the high cost of living in this area. I would like to make Arlington a place where children, parents, and grandparents can afford to be neighbors. I want to do this by changing zoning policies to allow the development of new housing around major transit hubs to increase the supply of housing to match demand. Also, trying to break the Democratic monopoly. Having entrenched incumbents makes the local political parties less responsive and accountable to their constituents.
Make it easier to build new dense, mixed-use residential developments around major transit hubs like Metro stations. This policy is sometimes referred to as transit-oriented development.
Arlington County has continued to raise property taxes to offset the high office vacancy rate leaving a hole in the county budget. I would like to convert office buildings into residential buildings to increase the tax base and avoid further tax increases.
Optimize the public transportation system of Arlington County to improve intra-Arlington transit. Currently the transit systems duplicates existing transportation that The regional transit authority, WMATA, provides.
